The Third Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (C-SEF III) was organised by the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Saint Kitts and Nevis for 13-14 September 2012. C-SEF III was attended by all the major actors involved in promotion of sustainable energy in the Caribbean. Discussions centred on development of both sustainable energy sources and a policy for renewable energy and energy efficiency that would meet the needs of the CARICOM countries.

The CARICOM Secretariat made the arrangements. Finland has participated fully in planning the event. Three Finnish experts were among the speakers.

The central themes of the Forum were the many different forms that sustainable energy can take, such as geothermal energy. Energy efficiency, especially in the transport sector, were also discussed. The primary focus of the discussions was on development: development of new sources and forms of energy, development of energy technology, development of public-private partnerships, and development of energy policy.

The Forum took place at the Saint Kitts Marriott Resort Hotel. Mr Joseph Williams, Programme Manager, Energy, of the CARICOM Secretariat is the Coordinator for C-SEF III.

The Forum was aimed at high level civil servants and experts. CARICOM has 15 full Member States: Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat (British Overseas Territory), Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Representatives from regional organisations and university academics, private business sector, development workers, development donors, financial institutions, and NGOs also attended.
