Minister for International Development Hautala will meet World Bank President Jim Kim

Press release 294/2012
11 December 2012

Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala will meet Jim Kim, the new President of the World Bank Group, in Stockholm at the Governors’ Meeting of the Nordic-Baltic Constituency, to be held today 11 December. Minister Hautala is the Alternate Governor of Finland to the World Bank. At the meeting, the topics of discussion will include the President’s strategic priorities and the measures for enhancing the effectiveness and impact of the bank group.

The meeting will address the operating methods employed by the World Bank to eradicate poverty by means of inclusive economic growth. Other main topics will include the support provided to fragile and conflict-affected states by the bank, promotion of gender equality, and addressing the challenges of climate change. In addition, the development of the bank’s administration will be discussed at the meeting with a view to boosting the influence of developing countries. Minister Hautala will introduce the subject ‘World Bank’s role in work related to climate change’ for discussion.

The Governors’ Meeting will provide the constituency an opportunity for an open dialogue with the President and therefore having a say on how the bank group's operations are developed. The Nordic-Baltic constituency is considered an active and visible actor in the Board of Governors of the World Bank. The Governors’ Meeting is an attempt to further enhance this status.
