EU Special Representative to Middle East Peace Process Andreas Reinicke will visit Finland on 1-2 November. During his visit Reinicke will have meetings with Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja, officials dealing with issues pertaining to the situation in the Middle East and the EU Common Security and Defence Policy, and other parties relevant to the above themes. He will also deliver a speech in the MFA officials’ theme day focusing on the EU Common Security and Defence Policy.
The task of the Special Representative is to contribute to achieving the EU's policy objectives in the Middle East. The main goal is to achieve a comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution. The Special Representative also represents the EU in the so-called Middle East Quartet whenever it has meetings on the Special Envoy level.
Andreas Reinicke is a German diplomat, who has a long career in issues with regard to the Middle East. Until the beginning of 2012 Reinicke acted as ambassador of Germany in Syria. Reinicke took office of the EU Special Representative on 1 February 2012.
