Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will lead a business delegation on a Team Finland export promotion trip to Kazan on 13-15 November 2012. Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan in Russia. The delegation is composed of representatives of over 30 Finnish businesses and organisations and the Finnish-Russian Chamber of Commerce.
Finland aims at developing extensive cooperation relations with Russian regions. Along with St Petersburg and Moscow Russia has a dozen of other major cities with millions of inhabitants, including Kazan. Tatarstan is among the most dynamic centres in Russia, especially for developments in the IT sector.
The trip aims at deepening the existing long-term cooperation relationships, promoting new contacts and strengthening the position and operational environment of Finnish companies as well as promoting Finland in Tatarstan. Interesting fields of cooperation with Tatarstan inlude construction, oil and gas, energy efficiency, Cleantech, renewable energy and waste management, educational cooperation and tourism.
Minister Stubb's agenda includes meeting with the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and opening a business forum together with Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov. Minister Stubb will also have talks with the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, visit a construction site of YIT and give a lecture at the Kazan Federal University. The working group of Finland and Tatarstan operating under the Finnish-Russian Intergovernmental Economic Commission will have its 10th jubilee meeting during the visit.
