Development Minister Pekka Haavisto will participate in the ministerial meeting of the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York on 7 to 9 July. The meeting takes placed during the High-level Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from 7 to 11 July 2014.
The mission of the HLPF, established last year, is to review sustainable development in a comprehensive manner. This means the integration of the ecological, social and economic dimensions of sustainable development into one whole at the highest international political level. The HLPF meets annually at ministerial level under the auspices of ECOSOC and every four years at the level of Heads of State and Government under the auspices of the UN General Assembly.
The HLPF meeting discusses the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals and lays the foundation for new global goals for the post-2015 period. Minister Haavisto will take part in the HLPF ministerial dialogue, which focuses on international cooperation for sustainable development, and the ECOSOC ministerial panel, and will present Finland’s general address at the ECOSOC meeting.
