During her trip Salminen took part in the Economic and Social Council’s Youth Forum and the 55th session of the Commission for Social Development.

– As a Youth Delegate I have an unique posibility to bring forwards the issues young people face. At the same time I can hopefully bring the distant United Nations closer to the experiences of Finnish youth. This seems especially important at the turbulent time we live in, Salminen says.

Salminen studies law at University of Helsinki and Information Networks at Aalto-University in Espoo. During her year as the Youth Delegate, she wants to talk about young people’s possibilities to part-take in decition making. She is also interested in gender equality.

– Restricting gender roles are an issue to both men and women. Stereotypes limit all of us.

Economic and Social Council’s Youth Forum gathered an exceptionally large audience of high level guests. Nearly 40 ministers and other high level representatives took part in the events.

Salminen also read Finland’s national statement at the UN’s Commission for Social Development session on Monday 6th of February. Amoung other things, she talked about Finland’s basic income trial. You can access the full text here:
